For more than 15 years PETCORE EUROPE, together with EPBP and TCEP, has been at the forefront of the creation of Design Guidelines for Recycling for Bottles and Thermoforms.
With PPWR article 6 coming into force in 2028, a European standard for Design for Recycling and recyclability assessment is needed. Our association has been very active in the creation of the standards (EN 18120 specifically) for the PET bottles and thermoforms parts within CEN TC 261 SC4 WG10 of CEN.
Our intent is to promote their widespread use and uptake and ensure that they make a real change to the circularity of PET.
For us this relies on:
- Robust and independent standards, recognised by the whole value chain
- Widespread diffusion and understanding, with PETCORE EUROPE playing a key role in supporting the value chain information and guidance
- Regular updates based on scientific evidence
- An open-minded approach connected to an overall efficiency objective for the whole value chain.
