Demand for recycled PET continues to increase, driven by regulatory push (Single Use Plastics Directive and PPWR), public expectations and brand-owner pledges.
Next to the traditional, cost effective and Carbon Footprint efficient mechanical recycling, PET Depolymerisation for recycling is a key enabler for providing the additional technologies to generate the required volumes of recycled PET and address difficult polyester streams.
PETCORE EUROPE recognises that when it comes to health, safety, quality and environmental aspects several barriers need to be overcome in order that PET depolymerisation technologies are widely accepted throughout the European Union and beyond.
Our Depolymerisation Recycling WG focuses on major topics of common interest for all members:
- EU Regulation EU 2022/1616 and EC 10/2011 for acceptance of PET Depolymerisation Processes for food contact PET resin
- Availability of post-consumer and post-industrial wastes
- Specifications of the above-mentioned wastes, in the light of the new recycling technologies
- The Basel convention on the control of Transboundary Movements of Hazardous Wastes and their Disposal.
